Teaching Style

I have been teaching singing for many years, but have recently specialised in teaching children in a school context.

I am currently teaching in 10 schools. The teaching ranges from whole-class sessions to one-to-one tuition; the age range spreads from year 3 to year 13. The majority of my teaching, though, is either one-to-one or small group teaching in secondary schools.

In a secondary school, I generally teach to one of the following syllabi, depending on the school and student context:

  1. The ABRSM Grade structure. I have several students studying for Grade 7 and Grade 8
  2. Pieces for performance as part of GCSE, BTec or A Level exams. I am regularly asked to take students who play no instrument and who have never had a singing lesson and prepare work with them
  3. My own syllabus. Especially suitable for students in Year 7 and those who "don't really know" why they're learning to sing. The syllabus requires them to explore a number of singing styles and techniques, and to learn about listening, recording and peforming.
